The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed this on Thursday after a high-level consultative meeting on state police held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Bola Tinubu-led Presidency has said that constitutional amendments required for the establishment of state police in Nigeria are nearing completion, signalling a major step toward the implementation of a decentralised policing system amid worsening insecurity across the country.
The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed this on Thursday after a high-level consultative meeting on state police held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to him, discussions on the framework for state police commenced several months ago following a directive from President Tinubu and have now progressed significantly, with attention focused on the constitutional amendments needed to make the initiative a reality.
“We started deliberations in the last three or four months on how to go about the establishment of state police as directed by Mr President,” Gbajabiamila said.
