Israel has kept up its air strikes across southern Lebanon killing several people, hours after it agreed a new ceasefire with Lebanese officials at talks in the US.

Israel’s defence minister said it won’t be withdrawing from the south – a key demand of Hezbollah, which dragged Lebanon into the war when it fired rockets at Israel in solidarity with its patron Iran.

The group’s leader has rejected the ceasefire, warning that as long as Lebanese villages are being bombed and people killed, northern Israel will not be safe.
