At least three people were killed after a gantry crane being used for the construction of a flyover on the Jewar Expressway connecting Faridabad collapsed onto a makeshift shelter at a construction site in Haryana's Faridabad on Thursday, police told ANI. One worker was rescued with serious injuries, while rescue operations continued to locate and reach others believed to be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.— ANI (@ANI) Accident occurred near Panhera Khurd village According to Faridabad Police public relations officer Yashpal Yadav, the incident took place between 1.30 pm and 2 pm near Panhera Khurd village under the jurisdiction of Chhainsa police station. Police received information about the accident at around 3 pm, following which rescue teams equipped with cutting tools were dispatched to the site. Eyewitness Sunil Kumar told ANI that the crane overturned during a storm. "During the storm, a crane overturned. Two people were rescued, but 2-3 people are still trapped. This crane is working on the construction of the Jewar Airport flyover," he said. Rescue efforts underway Yadav said rescue personnel managed to pull out one injured worker whose legs had been crushed in the accident. He added that operations were continuing to cut through or lift sections of the collapsed crane and the damaged container structure to reach those still trapped. "Efforts are still going on to cut or lift the collapsed part of the crane and the container to reach the other workers. The collapsed equipment weighs several ton," he said. Containers used as site offices and rest areas Officials said several shipping containers had been placed at the construction site and were being used as temporary offices and resting areas for contractors, workers and other personnel. The crane reportedly collapsed onto one such shelter, resulting in the fatalities and injuries.
