Greek Heritage Night, an annual event celebrating Hellenic culture, philanthropy and community spirit, returned Tuesday night as the opening event ahead of the Major League Baseball game between hosts Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.

Organized by the Alpha Omega Council, a US-based organization promoting Hellenism, the pre-game celebration, which included traditional Greek dance groups, drew nearly 3,000 members of the Greek-American community. It carried added significance this year, coinciding with the Council’s 50th anniversary, marking five decades of service, fellowship and cultural preservation across New England.

Now in its ninth year under Alpha Omega Council stewardship, the event – originally launched as an initiative of AHEPA, the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association – has grown into one of the largest Greek cultural gatherings in the region, supporting charitable initiatives while uniting families, organizations and supporters.

Greek Heritage Night Co-Chair John Mokas, who rose through the organization from committee member to vice president before assuming his current role, highlighted the coordination behind the event and its growing reach. “People come for the first time and talk to others about the next year. It keeps growing,” he said.
