The Kerala High Court has directed the State government to file an affidavit on the steps taken following an attack on the officers of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) after they raided the residence of Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter in Thiruvananthapuram on May 27, 2026.A Division Bench of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Syam Kumar V.M. issued the directive following a public interest ligitgation (PIL) filed by an advocate, seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the attack. He submitted that the probe into the incident was progressing at a snail’s pace and that only 10 persons were arrested so far, although 300 people were named in the FIR. The attack, the first in Kerala against ED officers, sends a wrong message to society, the petitioner said.During the course of the hearing, the High Court questioned the need for a CBI probe, adding that it was premature to assume that the police will not investigate the incident. The Supreme Court has already mentioned instances where a CBI probe is needed, it said and directed the government pleader to file a statement on the steps taken after the FIR was registered. The matter has been posted for hearing after two weeks.
