The Telangana State Haj Committee has urged pilgrims who are scheduled to return from Saudi Arabia to not pack valuables in check-in luggage.TGSHC Chairman Syed Ghulam Afzal Biyabani on Thursday, reacting to reports in the media, and social media, said that pilgrims from Telangana are scheduled to arrive from June 11. “There have been reports of luggage of pilgrims from other parts of the country being opened [without the knowledge of pilgrims] and items going missing. I urge you: keep your valuable close to you,” he said.Mr Biyabani requested pilgrims not to bring zamzam water, or carry it on their person. He said that the zamzam water would be handed over to pilgrims upon their arrival at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, once they return.The TGSHC officials, Central Industrial Security Force officers, and GMR Hyderabad International Airport officials, met for an inspection and walkthrough of the RGIA terminal, to prepare for the arrival of haj pilgrims. The Hyderabad embarkation point saw pilgrims not only from Telangana, but also from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, and several other States.According to TGHC officials, as many as 6,646 pilgrims from Telangana, 1,200 from Andhra Pradesh, 1,082 pilgrims from Karnataka and 560 pilgrims from Maharashtra went through the Hyderabad embarkation point.
