A 38-year-old woman from Kundapur in Udupi district was cheated of ₹5.69 lakh by a person who promised her of loan by opening a bank account under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).In the complaint to Kundapur police, the victim said she saw on Facebook a mobile number of the person who will help get loan on opening of PMJDY bank account.The victim called and the receiver identified himself as Shrinivas Rao. The receiver assured victim of getting ₹40 lakh loan. The victim transferred through PhonePe a total of ₹5.69 lakh between March 11 and April 13 to the account mentioned by the fraudster. After failing to get the loan, the victim filed complaint seeking action against the fraudster.The police registered the complaint for offences under Sections 318(4) (cheating) and 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
