June 4 (UPI) -- An animal control officer in California came to the rescue of a tiny kitten heard crying for help from inside a storm drain.

Clovis Animal Services said on social media that a local resident called police after hearing the kitten's cries, and officers summoned Animal Services personnel for assistant.

"The frightened kitten was trapped several feet below ground, so ACO Uribe used a net to help guide her up the steep side of the drain. Once she was close enough, she was safely pulled to freedom," the post said.

The kitten, now named Stormy, was taken to the shelter to be vaccinated and examined by a veterinarian. Stormy is currently in a foster home and will soon be made available for adoption.
