Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan has temporarily shifted his office to the newly-constructed building at the Old Distillery Complex on the Vaithikuppam side of the Beach Road to facilitate restoration of the 250-year-old Lok Nivas. Though he had shifted his residence to the new building last year, the Lt. Governor and his staff continued to work from Lok Nivas till two days ago. After performing a puja, the Lt. Governor started functioning from the new building on Thursday. From the new office, the Lt. Governor accorded financial sanction for the scheme to provide enhanced monthly assistance to women belonging to the Below Poverty Line families from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500. He also gave sanction for enhanced old age and destitute pension scheme, an official release said.According to an official, the restoration work of Lok Nivas would commence shortly as tendering process was nearing completion.
