City of Joburg mayor Dada Morero paid tribute to veteran journalist, Baldwin Ndaba for his contribution to the journalism fraternity.
Friends and former colleagues in the journalism sector gathered at the Anglo Gold Ashanti Joburg Zoo headquarters on Thursday to pay their heartfelt respects to Baldwin Ndaba, a former journalist at Independent Media. Ndaba passed away on May 22, 2026, after a brief, undisclosed illness. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Kimberley on May 30, among family and close friends.
Described as an activist, Pan Africanist, and a courageous yet ethical veteran, Ndaba left an indelible mark on the journalism sector, characterised by his unwavering dedication and passion for storytelling.
At the gathering, Themba Sepotokele, a former colleague and friend, urged those present to reflect on their unity as members of the press, saying, "I would implore colleagues to unite because we are fragmented, and unity is strength."
Speaking on behalf of the family, Robert Ndaba shared nostalgic insights detailing how the family’s upbringing by a newspaper-loving father profoundly influenced Ndaba's career choice.
