A 22-year-old woman allegedly smothered her two young children to death and later attempted to end her life in a village in Kolar district on Wednesday, reportedly unable to cope with the trauma of her husband’s recent death on Wednesday.The incident was reported from Alangur village in Mulbagal taluk. The woman, identified as Bujjamma, a native of Andhra Pradesh, allegedly killed her daughter Saraswathi, 3, and her one-year-old daughter, Hemashri, before attempting to end her own life. Alert neighbours intervened and rescued the woman. She is currently under treatment.According to the police, Bujjamma and her husband Babu, originally from Vinayakapuram in Andhra Pradesh, had been working at a mango orchard in Alangur for the past year. Babu was killed in an accident on May 10, after which Bujjamma reportedly slipped into severe depression.Investigators suspect that the woman took the extreme step due to emotional distress caused by her husband’s death.
