Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has expressed pain over Yadgir district’s low per capita income and said, “I am saying this with a heavy heart that the district has not seen any development in major sectors and because of lack of development, Yadgir’s per capita income is in the bottom place in the State’s table.”While addressing a gathering after inaugurating a Farmers Training and Common Facility Centre (FT-CFC) for Agro Processing at Baddepalli village in Gurmitkal taluk of Yadgir district on Thursday, Ms. Sitharaman said that the district is suffering from basic needs.Performance indicators for education, health, civic facilities, drinking water, depletion of groundwater, women’s literacy and others are much lower compared to other districts. Thus, the district stands in the last place in the Human Development Index (HDI) of Karnataka, she said. The lifestyle and economic status of farmers are very poor. Of the district’s total available land, 75% is used for cultivation, as a majority of land, especially in Gurmitkal taluk, has no irrigation facility, she said.“The Union government has announced the district as an aspirational district among others across the country for development in identified sectors. And, apart from that, the Finance Department, in association with NABARD, aims to establish farm processing units in all seven districts in the Kalyan Karnataka region to increase farmers income and generate local employment opportunities and improve market access for farmers products through district-specific agro-processing initiatives,” she said. The Central Finance Minister promised taking the steps necessary for the development of the district, mainly in the education, health and agriculture sectors, ensuring proper basic needs to improve people’s and farmers economic stabilityMeanwhile, Ms. Sitharaman felicitated members of Baddepalli Women’s Farmer Producer Company Limited at Baddepalli village during the day.
