Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is facing intense public scrutiny and allegations of political hypocrisy following his recent address to aggrieved Nigeria Democratic Congress party aspirants, where he urged them to overlook current systemic flaws for the "supreme" sake of the party.

The comments have sparked immediate backlash, with critics pointing out a stark contradiction between Obi’s current appeal for internal "tolerance" and his foundational political brand, which was built entirely on rejecting flawed, un-excellent political processes.

Addressing a gathering of disgruntled party supporters and aspirants who lost out in recently concluded primary elections of NDC, Obi made an emotional plea for unity, acknowledging that the young party, which he noted is only about 90 days into its current cycle, is still finding its footing.

He said, "For the party; mine is to most sincerely join and continue to appeal for sacrifice. If you consider that this party is about 90 days old and within these 90 days, we have gone through convention, through primary to another special convention like this. It is not easy.”
