Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Krishna Chakraborty resigned from the post of mayor of Bidhannagar city on Thursday citing personal reasons.Mayor Krishna Chakraborty has submitted a resignation to the municipal commissioner, citing personal reasons. (indianchamber | Official Instagram)“I, Krishna Chakraborty, Mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC), hereby tender my resignation from the post of Mayor due to personal reasons,” Chakraborty wrote in her letter to the BMC commissioner.The development comes at a time when several TMC leaders have already resigned from the posts of councilors, borough heads and chairpersons of various civic bodies led by the party across the state.“I have resigned as the mayor. I will continue to work as a councilor. I want to spend some time for myself,” Chakraborty told media persons.On Wednesday, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh told media persons that Firhad Hakim expressed his desire to resign from the post of Kolkata’s mayor. On the last day he had said that the civic body had become defunct. Hakim wants to resign with dignity. Mamata tried to dissuade him. He, however, said that the civic body has been made defunct. After considering all sides, the TMC supremo gave her nod to Hakim to resign from the post,” Ghosh told media persons.West Bengal has 128 civic bodies all being led by the TMC.While seven are municipal corporations (Kolkata, Siliguri, Asansol, Durgapur, Howrah, Bidhannagar and Chandannagore), the rest are municipalities. Elections to all these civic bodies are likely to be held by the end of this year.
