Learners from Red River Primary School, Floreat Primary School, and Ysterplaat Primary School participate in a Junior River Wardens activity day at Lagoon Beach.

Cape Town's newly graduated Junior River Wardens have successfully removed an astonishing 112.16kg of litter from Lagoon Beach.

With World Ocean Day approaching on June 8, the young environmental champions took early action by participating in a day of marine conservation, environmental education, and a beach litter clean-up on May 30.

The City’s Biodiversity Management Branch and Nature Connect, in partnership with Shark Spotters and the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation, hosted the event at Lagoon Beach to highlight the role young people can play in protecting oceans and coastal ecosystems for future generations.

Learners from Red River Primary School, Floreat Primary School, and Ysterplaat Primary School participated in the day’s activities and were issued with official Junior River Warden T-shirts and hats, as well as protective gloves.
