An eyewitness named Md Wasim Khan told news agency ANI that he contacted the owner after the fire broke out at around 8:30am, and the two spoke for 26 seconds. I saw that the situation was extremely dire... I called the owner at 8.52am. I spoke with him for 26 seconds. I informed him that the chances of survival were slim... Yes, the owner did come here. I can't say exactly when or how long he stayed, because I was busy saving lives... He didn't make any effort to save anyone," said Khan.Khan also said that the owner visited the restaurant on the ground floor almost every day and was a regular presence at the property. According to Khan, when he informed Bajaj about the fire over the phone, the owner initially appeared unaware of the scale of the incident and did not realise how serious the blaze had become.Inside the fire tragedy that killed 21The fire broke out on the ground floor of a bed-and-breakfast (B&B) facility on the morning of June 3 and soon engulfed the entire building.The fire started around 8.30 am, and before the Delhi Fire Services arrived at the spot, local residents and shop owners joined hands to rescue people trapped inside the hotel.A shop owner who runs a mattress business laid mattresses on the ground so that people could jump out of windows onto them, reducing the impact of the fall.Lavkesh Bajaj was arrested by the Delhi Police on Wednesday night. At least 49 people were rescued.Bajaj had been running the B&B for seven to eight years without a no-objection certificate from the Delhi Fire Services, violating multiple rules and regulations. The B&B had no fire exit and was operating 26 rooms despite being sanctioned for only six, officials said.Officials said investigators are focusing on the exact cause of the fire and the alleged violations that led to the blaze and trapped the victims inside the building.
