Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif are enjoying a new chapter in their lives as parents to their son, Vihaan Kaushal, who was born on November 7, 2025. The couple has chosen to keep their child away from the public spotlight, occasionally sharing small glimpses of him on social media while protecting his privacy. Recently, the Chhaava actor opened up about fatherhood and revealed how becoming a parent has transformed the way he looks at life, family and raising a child.In a conversation with Nod Magazine, Vicky shared the lessons he has learned over the last seven months and admitted that fatherhood has given him a completely new appreciation for his own parents.Fatherhood gave Vicky a new perspective on his son's upbringingLooking back at his childhood, Vicky said he now understands many of the decisions his parents made while raising him. He recalled that although his family was not financially affluent, his parents worked hard to ensure that he grew up with the right values.The actor explained that becoming a father has made him realise the scale of responsibility that comes with raising a child. According to him, parents are not only responsible for providing for their children but also for shaping the kind of people they grow up to become.Vicky shared that he often finds himself thinking about the values his parents instilled in him and how that responsibility now belongs to him and Katrina. He told the magazine that preparing a child for the world is one of the biggest duties a parent can have.The actor also revealed what he believes is the most important truth about parenting. He said children learn by watching their parents rather than simply listening to what they are told. As a result, he has realised that if he wants his son to develop certain qualities and values, he and Katrina must demonstrate those qualities through their own actions.According to Vicky, children absorb how their parents think, speak and behave. Because of that, he believes setting the right example is far more effective than giving instructions or advice.The emotional side of becoming a parentVicky also spoke candidly about the emotional changes that have come with fatherhood. While he had heard other parents talk about how quickly children grow up, he admitted that he never fully understood those feelings until he became a father himself.The actor took a six-week break from work after Vihaan's birth to spend time with his family. However, returning to work turned out to be more difficult than he had expected.Recalling his first work trip after becoming a father, Vicky said he had to leave home for a four-day shoot nearly 230 kilometres away. He admitted that the separation affected him deeply and that his heart sank when he had to leave his son behind.The experience helped him understand why parents often become emotional about their children growing up. He explained that new feelings seem to emerge almost every day because parenthood is still a completely new experience for him.Vicky said he now understands why parents frequently remark on how quickly their children grow. Earlier, he found such comments hard to relate to, especially when the children being discussed were still very young.
