At least three patients died and others were injured in a massive fire which broke out in the wee hours on Thursday (June 4 2026) at a Muzaffarpur hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in north Bihar.The death count is expected to go up. The fire broke out at fifth floor of the Prasad Hospital in Muzaffarpur district at 3:55 a.m..“We received an emergency call at around 3:55 a.m., and a team was rushed to operate rescue efforts there. Around 15 people, mostly admitted patients, were evacuated from the ICU of the hospital”, said Ram Niwas Pandey, an official from the fire department of Muzaffarpur while, adding, the “other patients have been shifted to nearby hospitals”.The fire servicemen later controlled the inferno and brought the situation under control.Though the cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained, the primary reports suggest that a short circuit was the reason for the fire to break out.“After the inquiry report, appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty for the incident”, Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen said. Mr Sen, however, confirmed that at least three people have died in the blaze and some others injured.“We’ve recorded statements from the family members of the patients admitted at the hospital”, the DM Mr. Sen told media persons.Earlier on June 3, at least 21 people had died, and several others were injured and hospitalised in a massive fire which had broken out in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area.
