Yu Eui-dong of the People Power Party (PPP) won the by-election in Gyeonggi's Pyeongtaek-B constituency, one of the most hotly contested races of Wednesday's parliamentary by-elections, coming out on top as the liberal bloc split its vote.

Yu, who represented Pyeongtaek-B for three terms from 2012 to 2024, reclaimed the seat for a fourth term.

As of 10 a.m, Thursday, with 99.88 percent of the ballot counted, he had 34.83 percent of the vote, ahead of Democratic Party (DP) candidate Kim Yong-nam, who had 28.77 percent. Cho Kuk of the Rebuilding Korea Party had 27.24 percent at the same time.
