Lagos State has pledged support for the maiden edition of the National Intermediate Games, positioning the competition as part of broader efforts to strengthen youth sports development and consolidate Lagos’ status as Nigeria’s leading hub for sporting activities.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving members of the Local Organising Committee of the games, led by the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, at Lagos House, Marina.
The governor said Lagos would continue to invest in sports as a tool for youth development, talent discovery and economic growth, noting that the state recognises the role of structured competitions in building future champions.
He said the National Intermediate Games align with the state’s vision of creating opportunities for young people while helping to address gaps in Nigeria’s sports development framework.
“We realise there is a gap. There is a skill gap, a knowledge gap and a structural gap.
