In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command said about five armed assailants invaded the NIS facility.

The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into an attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Passport Office in Ogbomoso, where armed criminals assaulted officers and escaped with a service rifle, ammunition, and other valuables.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the NIS confirmed an attack by armed men on its office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, around 10 pm on Tuesday, triggering concerns over the growing wave of insecurity targeting public institutions across the country.

Confirming the development to SaharaReporters on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the NIS, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, acknowledged that the agency's facility in Ogbomoso came under attack but said he was still awaiting a comprehensive briefing on the incident.

"I am getting a briefing on this. I will call you back in a few minutes," Akinlabi said during a telephone conversation with SaharaReporters.
