Kinski, now 65, has publicly stated that Wenders, her first director, failed to protect her and has urged him to re-edit the film. Wenders issued an apology to Kinski, acknowledging she should have been better protected, and stated the film would remain unavailable until a mutually agreed solution is found. The film, which marked Kinski's debut, features her topless as an apparently mute teen acrobat. Wenders plans to seek a "broad dialogue" with Kinski, the German Film Academy, and other groups to address how to handle controversial 20th-century film works.
