New Delhi: Venezuela's acting President Delcy Eloina Rodriguez Gomez Wednesday began a five-day visit to India during which she will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid India's growing sourcing of Venezuelan oil and plans to further boost oil imports from the crude rich South American country.Rodriguez is leading a high-level delegation comprising Venezuelan ministers for foreign affairs, economy and finance, science and technology, communication and information, and transportation, an official said. She was initially slated to visit New Delhi for the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) summit on June 1 before the event was postponed.This is Rodriguez's sixth trip to India. She previously visited the country as Venezuela's foreign minister in 2015 and later as Vice President in 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025.Rodriguez's talks with Modi would span the full spectrum of India-Venezuela ties and explore avenues for further cooperation in areas of energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, and renewable energy, the official said.India imported about 427,000 barrels per day (bpd) from Venezuela in May, making the latter India's third-largest oil supplier after Russia and the UAE.The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a statement said the Venezuelan delegation will visit several sites connected with energy, pharmaceuticals, and automotive sectors to gain insights into India's technological and industrial capabilities and to explore opportunities for collaboration.India has been a key partner of Venezuela in the areas of energy and investment. State-run Indian firms have made significant investment in Venezuela in the energy sector and are keen to explore opportunities for further enhancing their presence.India and Venezuela relations are underpinned by cooperation in the energy sector, trade, and shared commitment to the Global South.
