A suspect who took several people hostage at a California bank is dead and all hostages involved in the hours-long standoff are safe, police said on Wednesday, June 3.The situation began a day earlier when a man barricaded himself and an unknown number of people inside a Chase Bank building in downtown Bakersfield, authorities said.The hostage situation concluded about 4:20 a.m. PT following an officer-involved shooting involving FBI personnel, the Bakersfield Police Department posted on X."The suspect involved in the incident was pronounced dead of the scene," the agency wrote. "Bakersfield Police Department personnel were not involved in the use of force. All hostages were located unharmed and received medical evaluation and treatment at the scene."According to police, about 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, officers received a call reporting a bomb threat at the Chase Bank in downtown Bakersfield.
