Tensions in the Gulf have escalated after Iran launched overnight missile and drone attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain.
Kuwaiti authorities said at least one person was killed and 63 others wounded in strikes that targeted the country’s main airport. Officials said 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones launched from Iran entered Kuwaiti airspace since dawn.
In Bahrain, the military said it intercepted three missiles and several drones that were targeting civilian infrastructure.
Iran said the attacks were carried out in response to US strikes on a commercial vessel and a communications tower. Tehran said it targeted the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and what it described as a helicopter base in Kuwait.
Earlier on Wednesday, US Central Command said it had launched “self-defence” fire against targets on Iran’s Qeshm Island in response to Iranian attacks.
