Gandhinagar: In a statewide drive against illegal migrants from Bangladesh, Gujarat police has rounded up 362 aliens from various parts of the state.Inquiries into more than 700 people are still ongoing.Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Harsh Sanghavi told the media that while the operation is still ongoing, the people who had harboured the aliens without police verifications and other required formalities too shall be brought under investigation.The operation, which is being called Operation Delta Hunt according to Sanghavi, has been planned meticulously and the highways, bus stations, etc., were simultaneously blocked as the raids started and as many as 18 people were detained while attempting to flee.Sanghavi further said that it has come to light that many of the aliens who crossed over to India from Bangladesh managed their Indian identity documents from the villages in Bengal. He further said that the land allocated by the West Bengal government for fencing work along the border by the Border Security Force (BSF) would help strengthen border security in the coming years and reduce future illegal infiltration.Out of 362 illegal Bangladeshi nationals, including 103 men, 188 women, and 71 children, a maximum of 155 migrants were apprehended in Ahmedabad city, while 84 were arrested from Surat city, 34 in Ahmedabad Rural, 13 in East Kutch-Gandhidham, and 12 in Bharuch. During the operation, more than 782 suspected Bangladeshi nationals were also identified and are currently undergoing detailed verification and investigation.State Police Chief K. L. N. Rao stated that the campaign is entirely based on technical data and field verification. Using technical and local intelligence inputs received from the 'Cyber Centre of Excellence', Gujarat Police conducted extensive telecommunications analysis across the state. Based on this analysis, a database was created of Indian mobile numbers that had actual communication with Bangladeshi phone numbers. Through this method, police compiled a database of more than 6,200 suspected Bangladeshi nationals, which is now being used to carry out ground operations aimed at dismantling illegal networks.
