The District Crime Branch Police in Thoothukudi are on the lookout for a TVK functionary and his wife who allegedly cheated a textile shop worker to the tune of ₹72 lakh and went underground.According to the police, Gopi, 48, of Pitchivilai near Paramankurichi negotiated with T. Raja, the ruling TVK’s Eral town secretary, for buying a property of the latter for ₹90 lakh. As Raja had taken a huge loan in a bank, he asked Mr. Gopi to pay ₹72 lakh in the bank towards his loan, and give him the remaining ₹18 lakh before the registration of the property in his name.After Mr. Gopi paid ₹72 lakh in the bank, Raja and his wife Pon Deivam went undeground. When Mr. Gopi contacted the couple over the phone, they allegedly issued a death threat to him.Based on complaint filed by Mr. Gopi, the District Crime Branch Police have registered a case against Raja and Pon Deivam.
