CPI(M) members on Wednesday, visited the Google’s Data Centre site at Mudasarlova, where large scale tree felling is reportedly underway.Addressing the media after the inspection, CPI(M) leader K. Lokanadham accused the NDA government of disregarding environmental concerns. He expressed concern over the project’s proximity to the Mudasarlova Reservoir and park, and warned that the development could severely impact the reservoir’s catchment area and reduce water availability. He highlighted that nearly one lakh families in the Arilova region depend on water supplied from the reservoir and questioned how the government would ensure uninterrupted water supply if the project proceeds.“The government is already struggling to provide even half an hour of water supply daily to residents. It must explain how it intends to safeguard drinking water resources while permitting such large-scale projects,” he added.Mr. Lokanadham further alleged that the nearby eco-sensitive and tourism zones such as Kailasagiri, Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary and Indira Gandhi Zoological Park could be adversely affected. He urged the government to reconsider permissions granted for data centres as they could threaten water resources, biodiversity and public health. Published - June 03, 2026 08:06 pm IST
