R. Ashok, Leader of the Opposition and Padmanabhanagar MLA, warned solid waste management contractors of strict action, including the deduction of payments, if the persistent garbage collection issues in his constituency are not resolved within a week.Chairing a review meeting on solid waste management in Padmanabhanagar, Mr. Ashok heard complaints from residents of Kumaraswamy Layout, Padmanabhanagar, and Banashankari wards regarding the irregular door-to-door garbage collection, delayed arrival of waste-collection autos, and the emergence of garbage black spots. He directed contractors to ensure that the sanctioned number of waste-collection autos are deployed in every ward and that garbage collection is carried out daily between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. He said that the contact details of both the auto driver and contractor should be displayed on all waste-collection vehicles so that residents can directly report service failures.Mr. Ashok added that daily attendance records of the autos will also be submitted to his office for verification and instructed officials to deduct payments from contractors found operating fewer vehicles than mandated under their agreements.
