Janandolan Maha Maitri, Citizens For Democracy and other organisations have sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, one for his failure in conducting fool-proof examination and the other for partisan role through the Special Intensive Revision, respectively.Addressing presspersons in Hubballi on Wednesday, president of Samaj Parivartana Samudaya and Citizens For Democracy S.R. Hiremath said that because of SIR, Dalits, migrants, minorities and Adivasis have been left out of the electoral rolls on an unprecedented scale.Mr. Hiremath also termed the recent judgment of the Supreme Court upholding SIR as the most disappointing as it failed to uphold the letter and spirit of the both the Constitution and the Constituent Assembly debates for the independence of the Election Commission of India.Taking exception to the Chief Justice of India’s remark on cockroaches and parasites, Citizens For Democracy and other organisations have written a strongly worded letter to Chief Justice Surya Kant, he said.He said that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should immediately step down taking responsibility for the failure in conducting a clean national-level tests like NEET-UG, CBSE and others. The failure has cast adverse impact on the future of lakhs of students, he said.Taking a strong exception to the manner in which Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commission of India are functioning, Mr. Hiremath said that certain developments are a matter of great concern. Large scale removal of people from voter list without following the process of natural justice will do more harm to the country, he said. Published - June 03, 2026 08:22 pm IST
