Tripura Police on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) arrested a Bangladeshi youth as security deployment intensified ahead of the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the State. The youth, who identified himself as Sajib Bhuyan, was arrested from the Bitarban locality in the city.Police claimed that a prima facie investigation revealed that the detainee is a resident of Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh, adjacent to West Tripura. They said further investigation is underway.While being produced before a court, Sajib Bhuyan told newsmen that he and his family were subjected to political violence in their village in Bangladesh. He said he was forced to flee to India.Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive here on the evening of Thursday (June 4, 2026) and leave the State on Friday (June 5, 2026). His principal engagements include attending the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the construction of a heritage hotel at the site of the old Raj Bhavan, also known as Pushpabanta Palace, a meeting with the top brass of the BSF at the Tripura Frontier Headquarters, and an inspection of a BSF border outpost near Agartala.The Home Minister is also expected to meet State leaders of the BJP and senior functionaries of some tribal forums.
