He was a member of the Royal Anglian Regiment and joined the Army in June 2016. Lance Corporal Freeman had served in various operations, including South Sudan, Cyprus, the Falklands, Jordan, Romania and Kenya, and contributed to the UK's Covid-19 response. Colonel James WHM Bishop, commander of Operation Shader in Iraq, described him as a 'larger than life' and 'magnetically charming' leader.
