The new government has appointed a minister for nature and animal welfare instead
Denmark’s new centre-left coalition has scrapped the agriculture minister role and created a minister for nature and animal welfare, signalling a green shift and a stricter approach to the country’s major pig industry.
After months of negotiations following Denmark’s March elections, Mette Frederiksen, the prime minister, unveiled a new government of 21 ministers on Wednesday, marking the start of her third term in office and a leftward shift from the previous government.
Notably absent from the line-up, however, is a traditional agriculture portfolio. In its place, the government has created a Ministry for Nature and Animal Welfare, headed by social democrat Christian Rabjerg Madsen, a close ally of Frederiksen.
