Data center operator Global Switch has signed a 10-year corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with Drax Energy Solutions to support its UK operations.

The CPPA will see Drax act as the intermediary between Global Switch and an undisclosed energy generator to supply 55GWh of solar power per annum to the data center operator. The CPPA will come into effect in January 2027 and is expected to cover 30 percent of the data center company’s UK power demand.
“Businesses are continuing to look for ways to manage energy market volatility while supporting their sustainability goals. For energy-intensive sectors such as data centers, long-term agreements like CPPAs can provide greater certainty over costs and supply. We’re pleased to continue supporting Global Switch as part of its wider energy strategy,” said Callum O’Reilly, CPPA strategic originator at Drax Energy Solutions.
The deal builds on a previous CPPA between the two companies signed in 2025. The deal saw Drax agree to supply 70GWh of power to Global Switch, covering 35 percent of its energy needs in the UK. With the signing of the latest CPPA, the two agreements will cover approximately 70 percent of the company’s UK energy usage.
