A Virginia resident has sued Amazon over alleged privacy violations involving its Ring doorbells, whose recently introduced Familiar Faces feature, the lawsuit argues, illegally store images of passersby without their consent.
Charles Sigwalt, the plaintiff, sued the e-commerce company in Seattle federal court and is seeking class action status, with at least $5 million (£3.7m) in damages for the class.
“Millions of other Americans passed by a Ring security camera and unknowingly had their facial recognition information collected,” the lawsuit states.
