Uber has set usage caps on some AI tools used by staff in order to manage costs, Bloomberg reported, after the company exceeded its annual budget for the technology earlier this year.
Staff are limited to $1,500 (£1,115) in monthly token spending per AI coding tool, with budgets for different tools being independent of one another, the report said, citing an unnamed spokesperson.
The limits have been brought in in recent months and only apply to AI coding tools such as Cursor or Anthropic’s Claude Code, with all staff having a dashboard to track their usage across tools, the report said.
Soaring costs
Staff can also reportedly request permission to exceed the cap if needed.
