The Lagos State High Court sitting in Osborne, Ikoyi, has ordered a temporary suspension of the coroner’s inquest into the death of 21-month-old Nkanu Adichie-Esege, the son of renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie and her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege.
The development comes amid mounting scrutiny over the circumstances surrounding the toddler’s death and allegations of medical negligence against officials of Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Justice A.O. Opesanwo granted the interim order following an ex parte application filed by Eurapharma Care Services Nigeria Limited, operators of the hospital where the child reportedly died on January 7, 2026.
The court's decision coincides with disciplinary actions taken by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel, which reportedly suspended the hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Tunde Majekodunmi, along with two other medical personnel, over allegations bordering on negligence in the management of the child before his death.
