NORTHEAST — Today, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont sued the Trump administration over the U.S. Department of the Interior’s $1 billion buyout of TotalEnergies’ offshore wind leases, a move that led the company to abandon its U.S. offshore wind projects in exchange for doubling down on fossil fuel investments, including LNG exports in the Gulf.

In response to the states’ lawsuit, Sierra Club Senior Advisor Nancy Pyne released the following statement:

“The Trump administration’s move to buy out TotalEnergies’ offshore wind leases is yet another politically motivated and illegal attack on clean and affordable energy, family-sustaining jobs, and billions of dollars in supply-chain and infrastructure investment. We applaud the states for taking Trump to court.
