The team said it had signed a non-binding letter of intent, which will be considered by the Plano City Council at a meeting on Monday. The Stars’ current lease doesn’t expire until 2031.“This project would present a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our franchise,” Stars owner Tom Gaglardi said in a release. “We eagerly await the vote by the Plano City Council and look forward to continuing the conversation to be part of the redevelopment of The Shops at Willow Bend.”The announcement comes one day after AAC’s other tenant, the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, laid the groundwork for a new arena and entertainment district of their own at the site of the Valley View Mall, approximately 11 miles north of downtown Dallas. The Mavericks have been actively seeking an NBA-only arena, going so far as to sue the Stars last year for preventing needed upgrades to the arena, which opened in 2001. A Texas judge ruled in favor of the Mavericks two weeks ago, giving the NBA team control of the arena. The Stars are appealing the decision.Jun 2, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
