CDWR further alleged that the attack occurred after a meeting between the NANS leadership group and Governor Seyi Makinde earlier in the day, describing the incident as politically troubling.
The Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR), Oyo State chapter, has condemned what it described as a violent and unprovoked attack on peaceful protesters in Ibadan, including members of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement, calling for an independent investigation into the incident.
The protesters had gathered in Ibadan on Tuesday to demand the immediate and safe release of abducted students and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State when they were allegedly attacked by armed thugs.
In a statement issued on June 2, 2026 and signed by Comrade Abiodun Bamigboye, CDWR said, “The Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR), Oyo State Chapter, condemns in the strongest terms the brutal and unprovoked attack unleashed on peaceful protesters, including members of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement in Ibadan today.”
The group alleged that the attack was carried out by “state-sponsored thugs” reportedly led by the self-acclaimed National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and Special Adviser to the Governor on Student Matters, Victor Olojede.
