For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with nighttime nasal congestion, which has made falling and staying asleep challenging. Most nights, I prop myself up with multiple pillows and slather on menthol rub so I can breathe easier, but sometimes that’s not enough. After researching the best way to perform sinus rinses to help with my nasal congestion (among other things), I came across the battery-operated Naväge Nose Cleaner.

Like other nasal irrigation devices, it’s designed to flush out your blocked nasal passages with saline so you can breathe more freely. Though this may sound strange at first, the practice has been around for thousands of years.

Saline rinses are an effective way to treat runny, itchy or stuffy noses, according to Dr. Madeleine Herman, an otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat physician). These devices can relieve many allergy symptoms, too. “Saline will naturally rinse away pollen, mucus, germs, environmental irritants and even many of the inflammatory molecules that worsen nasal symptoms,” she said.

To see if this wellness product could really alleviate my congestion, I committed to using the cleaner almost every night for three weeks straight. Here are my honest thoughts on the Naväge irrigation system after my time testing.
