Sir Keir Starmer has said police have “serious questions” to answer after he was accused of staying silent for too long over the murder of Henry Nowak.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister said that the footage of officers arresting Nowak, 18, as he lay dying from five stab wounds inflicted by Vickrum Digwa, his Sikh attacker, made him feel sick “as a father of a 17-year-old boy”.
Hampshire police released the footage on Monday. It showed Nowak repeatedly telling officers “I can’t breathe” as they arrested him for alleged racial abuse minutes before he died.
Nowak told the officers he had been stabbed, but he was arrested after Digwa, 23, falsely claimed that he had been racially abused by the student.
