New Delhi: Hours after CBSE chairperson Rahul Singh appeared before a parliamentary standing committee to defend the on-screen marking (OSM) mechanism deployed to assess Class 12 Board answer sheets, he was learnt to have been shunted out along with CBSE secretary Himanshu Gupta. A one-member panel has been set up to inquire into the procurement process for the OSM technology.Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, currently additional secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, was appointed the new CBSE chairman, as per a late evening government order on Tuesday.Also Read: Lokhande Prashant Sitaram appointed as new CBSE chief amid OSM controversyCBSE has been at the centre of a major row over its OSM deployment and alleged discrepancies in scanning and evaluation of mark sheets, technical glitches besides questions over the selection and qualification of OSM tech provider COEMPT.The Centre has, so far, defended OSM as a means of ensuring transparent and quicker evaluation of answer sheets. CBSE re-evaluation portal went live on June 2. It was delayed by a day and rescheduled from its original date of May 29.Also Read: CBSE Chairman transferred amid OSM controversy: All about IAS officer Rahul SinghMeanwhile, a one-member committee has been set up under chairperson, Capacity Building Commission, S Radha Chauhan, to 'inquire into matters relating to procurement of services for OSM, an office memorandum issued by the Cabinet Secretariat said. Chauhan is expected to submit the panel report to the Department of Personnel and Training within a month.Chauhan, a retired IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, served as secretary, DoPT, from 2022 to 2024. He had earlier held a position in the education ministry.
