According to him, legislation of such national significance should not only secure parliamentary approval but must also enjoy broad public support to guarantee effective implementation.

The Speaker of Ghana's Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called for a reconsideration of the recently passed Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, citing concerns about the legislative process that led to its approval and stressing the need for broader consensus on the controversial measure.

Speaking on Tuesday, June 2, Bagbin directed the leadership of both the Majority and Minority caucuses to undertake further consultations on the bill, widely known as the anti-LGBTQ bill, to ensure wider agreement among lawmakers and stakeholders.

In a video shared online by ChannelOne TV, the Speaker disclosed that he was surprised to learn that Parliament had fully passed the bill on Friday, May 29, explaining that he had expected lawmakers to only commence the consideration stage of the legislation before proceedings were concluded.

"This is such a critical matter that we believe there must be consensus. It's not just about passing the bill; it's about implementing it and ensuring it benefits the people," Bagbin stated.
