Three defendants, including two brothers, were remanded in custody in connection with the OPEKEPE farm subsidy case in northern Greece after giving testimony before a European investigating judge, where they were alleged to have played leading roles in a scheme involving irregular subsidy payments.

Three female defendants were placed under house arrest, including two spouses of alleged ringleaders, while another defendant was released under restrictive conditions.

According to reports, all defendants denied the allegations.

One defendant accused of having a leadership role said he is a farmer and that all declarations he submitted were lawful.

His wife told investigators she had no knowledge of the financial matters managed by her husband.
