New Delhi: India Tuesday reacted strongly to a joint press communique released by Pakistan and the European Union, objecting sharply to references made to the Jammu and Kashmir issue.Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India "categorically rejects" the inclusion of what it termed "unwarranted and misplaced commentary" on the Union territories, reiterating that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are "integral and inalienable" parts of India. He further emphasised that no external entity has any "locus standi" to comment on matters relating to India's sovereignty or internal administration.India had always maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and that it doesn't support any third party role or mediation in the issue.US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he mediated to end a brief conflict between India and Pakistan in May last year had cast a major shadow over New Delhi-Washington ties. The MEA spokesman expressed hope that the US will ask Pakistan to "abjure" terrorism. The comments follow US defence secretary Pete Hegseth praising Islamabad at the Shangri-La Dialogue conference in Singapore last weekend. The EU had praised Pakistan's mediation efforts between the US and Iran, crediting Islamabad for preventing a return to full-scale conflict even as it sidestepped any references on India's concerns on Pak role in cross-border terror and Pak-based terror infrastructure that is responsible for spreading extremism globally. At a joint press conference after talks with deputy prime minister and foreign minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad Monday evening, EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy and vice president of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, described Pakistan as a "major regional power" with a growing diplomatic profile. The EU-Pakistan joint communique issued after Kallas' visit has references to Jammu and Kashmir, thereby internationalising the issue, said a long-time watcher of Pakistan-EU ties.
