Google has broken ground on a data center in Horndal, Sweden.

Located in the Avesta Municipality in Dalarna County, the Horndal data center will be Google's first self-developed, owned, and operated facility in the country.

Details about the data center are sparse, but Google has said that it has been designed with "sustainability in mind," and will be air-cooled so as to limit water use, and will be ready for off-site heat recovery to provide waste heat to local homes and businesses.

In addition, Google says it has helped bring 700MW of renewable energy to the Swedish grid since 2013 through PPAs.
