The Kozhikode district administration has issued an order banning the movement of multi-axle vehicles on the Thamarassery Ghat road connecting Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. This is to ensure smooth traffic on the road and avoid accidents in the monsoon season.A release quoting District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty, who is also the chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, said on Tuesday (June 2) that the ban would be in force between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.However, though the Public Works department had earlier issued a similar ban on this route, it was not implemented properly. The latest order follows a meeting attended by Minister for Agriculture T. Siddique, C.K. Kasim, MLA, and the District Collectors of Wayanad and Kozhikode.The order would be in force till the end of the monsoon season or the issuance of another order bypassing it. Heavy vehicles should make use of alternative roads such as the Kuttiyadi pass or the Nadugani pass. The District Police Chief (Kozhikode Rural) had been asked to implement the order.Lorries, trucks, tanker lorries, trailers, and container vehicles would not have permission to go by this road. However, official vehicles, emergency vehicles, and public transport vehicles have been exempted. Police personnel would be deployed at Adivaram in Kozhikode and Lakkidi in Wayanad round the clock.
