The announcement was made on Tuesday, during plenary after Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read a letter from Chinda notifying the chamber of his decision to leave the PDP.
Kingsley Chinda, a longtime ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that also led to his resignation as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, during plenary after Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read a letter from Chinda notifying the chamber of his decision to leave the PDP.
The letter conveying the defection was dated April 23, 2026.
Shortly after the defection was announced, Chinda stepped down from his position as Minority Leader, ending his tenure as the leader of the opposition caucus in the House.
