Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, recently posted voter registration details of Nollywood actor Emeka Ike shortly after Ike announced his intention to contest for a House of Representatives seat in the FCT.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has commenced investigation into allegations of unauthorized access to its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) database following the circulation of voter information linked to a candidate who participated in the recent primaries of a political party in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The records appeared to come from INEC’s restricted administrative portal, not the publicly accessible IReV portal. This raised immediate concerns about unauthorized access.
Veteran journalist and former presidential aide Reuben Abati publicly demanded that Olayinka explain how he gained access to the restricted database. He emphasized that the portal is password-protected and reserved for INEC officials, making Olayinka’s access highly suspicious.
